A lot of people don’t realize how powerful the call recording feature is, and you can make it more than a tool for forwarding your calls when you’re away from your phone. It can be like a way to get a work life balance. So, we are going to really get into how to use it and discuss a cool way to customize it.
How to set up Call forwarding on your phone?
In call forwarding what you’re doing is telling your phone to redirect calls from your number to another number by setting it up right in your phone ‘s settings. Sounds easy, but sometimes you might have to contact your carrier, like if you’re on a CDMA network, they usually have to set it up for you. All good, but how do you know if it’s working? Well, you’ll hear like a really short ring before the call gets forwarded, like a quick little Bert, and then you know.
Also, the person you’re forwarding the call can sometimes hear a different ringtone. So, they know that the call has been forwarded. One thing to watch out for is that if you’re forwarding to a long-distance number, you might get charged extra. So just double check with your carrier, see what their rates are.
Now, you’ve got a little heads up about Call Forwarding and finding it kind of useful, let’s talk more about something called conditional call forwarding because that’s where things get a bit more interesting. So what is conditional call forwarding?
It’s basically a way to set up rules for how to manage your calls. So instead of just forwarding all your calls all the time, you can be more specific like say you’re in a meeting, but you’re also expecting a really important call say, from your wife. So, with conditional call forwarding you can make calls from certain numbers still come through even if you’re already on another call.
More importantly, if your phone is unreachable, like if you’re in a dead zone, or if your battery died that way, the call will still get through someone else to whoever you set it up to forward to, like your office line or your home phone.
iPhone
For all the iPhone users out there, the first thing you’re going to do is open your Settings and then you’ll scroll down to the Apps entry.

There, tap on the Phone menu and look for the Calls section. Under it, simply slide the toggle next to Call Forwarding option to turn it on. Choose a number you want the calls to forward to.
Android
For Android users, you’re going to open your phone and then tap on those 3 little dots, the ones that usually mean more options.
Then, you’ll tap on Settings and then look for Calling Accounts. If you have more than one SIM card, you’ll need to choose the one you want to set Call forwarding for. Then from there it’s pretty similar to iPhone.

You’ll see call forwarding and you can choose from all the different options like whether you want to forward all calls or just certain ones? Example, if I wanted to forward all my calls to my Google Voice number, I could do that.
Once you’ve chosen your settings, just enter the number you want to forward calls to and then confirm it. That’s it, you’re good to.

So, the next time you’re at dinner and a work call comes in, don’t let it kill the mood. Set up call forwarding to send those untimely calls straight to voicemail after a certain time and enjoy your meal without stressing about work.
